Meet Robert C. Davis Jr.: The Expert Behind Hometown Inspections
March 2025
More Than an Inspector—A Builder, Craftsman, and Industry Expert
When it comes to home inspections, experience is everything—and no one brings more hands-on expertise than Robert C. Davis Jr., founder and lead inspector of Hometown Inspections.
Unlike many inspectors who enter the field with only classroom training, Robert has spent over two decades working on homes from the inside out—building, restoring, and renovating properties with his own hands. This deep understanding of construction allows him to identify issues others might miss and provide homebuyers, sellers, and real estate professionals with trustworthy inspections.

A Builder’s Perspective on Home Inspections
From Cabinet Maker to Home Inspector
✅ Began his career in 2001 at Juniper Cabinet & Millwork in Trappe, MD, where he trained as a professional cabinet maker. This background in high-end craftsmanship developed his keen eye for detail—a crucial skill for home inspections.
✅ In 2005, he launched his own home improvement business and obtained his Maryland Home Improvement Contractor License. He worked directly with homeowners and builders, specializing in luxury renovations, trim work, and cabinetry.
✅ Historic Restoration Expert: Robert played a key role in restoring the 300-year-old Handsell House in Vienna, MD—personally fabricating original doors, rebuilding the front entryway, and restoring historic windows to preserve architectural integrity—a level of expertise few inspectors can claim.

His hands-on experience in every aspect of home construction gives him unmatched insight as an inspector.

Merging Decades of Experience into Hometown Inspections
In 2019, Robert combined his construction, emergency response, and technical expertise to establish Hometown Inspections. His background gives him a unique advantage as a home inspector—with knowledge extending far beyond standard inspection checklists. Robert understands how homes are built and function and where potential problems hide.
Why This Matters for Home Inspections
Most home inspectors learn by reading textbooks—Robert learned by building homes, restoring history, and solving real-world problems. His deep understanding of structural integrity, electrical systems, plumbing, and craftsmanship ensures a more thorough and knowledgeable inspection for homeowners and buyers.
🔍 Robert’s hands-on background means:
✔️ He knows where hidden problems hide—because he’s fixed them before.
✔️ He understands home systems in detail—because he’s built them.
✔️ He explains issues clearly—so you can make informed decisions.
Most home inspectors are trained to look; Robert knows what he’s looking at.
When you book with Hometown Inspections, you’re not just getting an inspection—you’re getting an industry professional with decades of real-world experience who can provide insight, expertise, and confidence in your home buying or selling journey.
